A) 'Twas the First Battle of Bull Run, just outside D.C. in Virginia....
B) Lincoln wanted this battle to quickly make a quick work of the Confederate army's plans to open the distance from the Richmond capital to the national capital, D.C., separating the South from the North! But the inexperienced North's general bungled the battle plans, with the Yanks' troops sent running back to the safety of D.C.
C) That night, all night long, Lincoln spent pondering what to do about the "unexpected" defeat, since he WAS the Commander-in-Chief! And he made, after deep deliberations, the next morning, to "hire" a new, seasoned general immediately AND set about to SAVE the Union! History tells us, though, it would take until 1865 for the Confederates, under Gen. Robert Edward Lee, to surrender.
D) Know your history? Within a short time after that surrender, our 16th President was assassinated.
E) And before those days, Lincoln EXPECTED and DECLARED that it was now time to heal and come back together...as ONE NATION! He, the man, didn't have a chance to see and demand that his wishes be carried out.... History tells us, after the fact, that too many within that national government back then expected and did "make the South pay for their actions during our only ever unCivil War!!"
F) Much studied by me, and many others, has been examined, PROVING the continued choice of ABRAHAM LINCOLN up around the top of OUR BEST EVER Presidents. Please explore on your own if you question my thinking....
