A) Do not get out of your auto...want to show police-person your civility...keep hands on steering wheel...keep driver's license close. Good idea to have registration card and insurance proof in envelope MARKED "Registration" and "Insurance" in visor above window. Tell him/her you are reaching for them! You may be a bit nervous and can respond quickly and well!!
B) YOU HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO INCRIMINATE YOURSELF!!!!!...5th Amendment of our U.S. Constitution!!!! A police-person will ask you if you knew how fast you were going or what you had "violated." Whatever you say WILL be written down on paper in their report and used against you if you have to go to court! If you say that you knew you were going over the speed limit, you have admitted that you did, giving up your right to not incriminate yourself! Hey, it's one of those "ways" a police-person uses a bit of testing to cleverly get you to "confess." The judge will be told what you admitted to in court by the police-person.
C) And what do you have THE right to do when you are stopped for any reason? Say nothing about mph or whether you did or did not go through a red light, etc. You are not lying, period, merely using your right under the U.S. Constitution not to incriminate yourself BEFORE appearing in court!! DON'T ARGUE about your rights with the police-person!!!!! Quietly know them and use them. YOU MUST, though, tell your name and address, show your driver's license if driving.
D) Remember...you will never win an "argument" alongside the road. Wait to prove all in court.
E) DETAILS...great idea/plan to immediately remember details and WRITE DOWN for later if need be. DID YOU POLITELY ASK THE NAME AND RANK OF THE POLICE-PERSON BEFORE LEAVING? DO! Jot down the TIME and DATE in your notes, too?
