109- Some COCA-COLA HISTORY!......

A) Among many researching moments and subjects, sat down one summer evening, and listened to my late paternal grandmother, Willie, describe how she, as a teen, liked to go to a soda fountain in a Shenandoah Valley town for a treat.  And Coca-Colas did not come the way you see them today.  Some of you may not even remember Cokes/sodas in a glass bottle?  A soda-jerk would make them at a marble soda fountain in front of her, over the marble counter!
B) "Soda-jerk" (person who mixed the drinks) was so name because he "jerked" the dispenser for adding the right amount of Coke syrup in the bottom of a glass, then carefully "jerked", squirted, the carbonated water into the glass as he mixed the Coke, careful not to squirt most of it out of the glass....was an art to it!
C) And you thought that Cherry Cokes were invented maybe ten years or so ago?  Wrong!
D) My grandmother told me she could order the following sodas in a soda shoppe, along with ICE CREAM:  a lime Coke...a chocolate Coke...celery Coke...lemon Coke...vanilla Coke and, of course, that cherry Coke.
E) Had a headache?....there was an amonia Cole...hmmmm.
F) I do remember growing up in an old Shenandoah Valley town and liked going into Wilson's Drugstore.  Had lots of marble about and those soda-jerks with white paper hats...and terrific scooped ice cream sundaes, banana splits and REAL chocolate milkshakes.
G) Oh, there was, on the wall opposite the fountain, a monstrous, scary stuffed MOOSE head that always looked down at moi while this little boy sipped drank "jerked" cherry coke and munched on a grilled cheese sammich!  Those eyes followed me, too, out the door....
